Texas State Fair

Last week I was able to attend the Texas State Fair while in Dallas for a conference. The conference ended on Friday afternoon and my flight was Saturday morning. The hotel was downtown at the Pearl Street DART station. I got on and went to Fair Park.

I bought a sheet of 20 coupons for rides. The Ferris wheel is my first choice so I went straight to it. That took 12 coupons. At the top I could see a long ways since Texas is so flat.

I checked the swings and the tramway. They each wanted 10 coupons and I only had 8 left. I was not buying anymore coupons. I would have liked to ride at least one of them. I think they should fix it so you get at least 2 rides for a sheet of coupons.

I went through the Southern Living Garden in the Midway area. It was free and wonderful to see. It had garden designs with little train tracks and toy trains running. It also had a guy carving designs into sides of pumpkins.

I stopped for something to eat at the Old Mill Inn. This was a nice restaurant for a sandwich. The chicken salad one was very good. Again, I was puzzled why I had to keep sweetening my ice tea in Texas. The restaurant is opened all year on the grounds.

I went through the Texas Hall of Fame. That was also free. It also is permanent on the site along with the Cotton Bowl. I found that interesting. It told how the Alamo got its name. Also it told the story about the settling of Texas.

I finally went through the House of Tomorrow. That took 4 more coupons. It was interesting and I have the book on it to read sometime.

I was left with 4 coupons. That is all right.
