Common Item of Royal Wedding and Bin Laden Death

In the past 5 days, I have followed 2 events primarily by the Internet. This is nice. I can view the parts that I want to see when I want to see them.

Thirty years ago, I got up at 4 AM to watch the Royal Wedding. Back then we only had 3 networks available in the Charlotte region. Also the Internet did not exist. I watched most of it and timed it with getting ready to go to work. Then I sat through the news that evening to watch some more.

This time I slept. I had a day trip to Raleigh on Thursday and “sleeping in” was nice. I attended to some errands, emails, and other business functions. Then I clicked on the news areas on the Internet. I could view what I wanted to for as long as I wanted to.

On Sunday night I was already asleep when word came about the death of Osama Bin Laden. I saw it on the Internet the next day. Again, I could see what I wanted to and then go on. I chose to watch some analysis that evening on TV but cut it when it started repeating.

I like these options. I like having control and flexibility on getting the information.
