The reliable desktop turned 5 years old in February. It is like parting with a trusted friend. It was there. It always came on when needed. The keyboard and I fit. However, it was Windows XP and Office 2003. It was time to go. I have a laptop that has Vista and 2007 but it is not the same.
I now have a new desktop. I received the parts on Tuesday. I took the old one out Wednesday morning, cleaned the area, and then assembled the new one. I stopped for lunch and read the instruction book on how to start it up. I got all of the pieces working. End of day one.
On Thursday I had some errands to run in the morning. However, I had time to check emails and do a few other things on the computer. The computer also had things it decided to do. For example, it decided to download all of the Windows updates that had come out since the version I received. I think the updates are done.
Thursday afternoon I put some files back on that I desperately have to have to function. Yes I have offsite backup but I have not loaded that software yet. Remember I am a one-person show in this business, house, yard, etc. Yes, I hired a yard service and they came Wednesday. The yard looks great. However, the new grass needs some water due to this heat (later today). Getting back to subject, I got the files on. I figured out how to copy folders rather than each file.
Darn this 2010. I am used to hitting the Enter key twice for a new paragraph and a space between.
I am still adjusting to the new keyboard. My chair, the monitor and my hands do not fit this keyboard. I just put a towel in the chair. Now my back hurts. I just moved the keyboard to my lap. This is better.
I am sure there are more adjustments that I will need to make in the days ahead. Five years is a long time of habit in the computer business. (Darn this keyboard. I keep hitting the CAPS key.) However, I like to think of myself as someone that can change and adjust. I will. Now where is the SAVE on this document?
