Fighting off Illnesses

Yesterday I taught Junior Achievement to 2 classes. I noticed the room was warmer than usual when I arrived. I taught the first block class and all was fine. Near the end of the second block class I began to feel some illness attacking me. I had heard that the flu and a 24 hour virus are making the rounds in the Charlotte region so I had been watching what I ate and getting sleep and fresh air. I repeated those activities after the classes, washed my hands after opening the mail, and rested more.

This morning I am feeling all right but not the best. I had a blood test at the doctor’s office first thing. I decided to sit in the “Sick Waiting” area. I had already thought about doing this because every time that I sit in “Well Waiting” I get sick. “Sick Waiting” has direct window light, more plants, and when I arrived there were no people in it. I got a sit next to the windows. By the way, there were a number of people in “Well Waiting”.

While I was waiting, one man came in a sat down several seats from me. Then a father came in with his daughter. She appeared to be in her tweens and they sat a few rows over from me. Then a mother and small child came in and went to the back of the area. We were all only there a few minutes. However, it was long enough for me to overhear the phone call the tweens father made to tell someone that she had a bad sore throat and that strep throat is going around (something else to dodge). I also noticed how fast the tween and the small child were called for to see the doctor. Sick Waiting was clearing out!

I got called back shortly. The blood was drawn and I got out of there. After the doctor’s office, I went to get breakfast. I washed my hands before eating. Then I went to the grocery store. I washed my hands when I got home.

I try to think of my health first and then other things. I wonder what all of these illnesses are costing the schools and the business offices. I have also heard that people are going to work sick and sending students to school sick because they used so many personal days during the snow in January. Apparently people have nice vacation plans for later in the year. I hope they live to enjoy it.
