I am like most others. I have been watching the video and info coming out of Egypt. This action is showing how hard it is for anyone to block information from getting out. Let’s face it. The days of hiding data are over.
First we heard that this demonstration/revolution was a surprise. Last Saturday I attended an investment seminar. The lunch speaker said that his indicators on January 18th said to sell every investment in Egypt. At least the indicators knew something.
Then I got to thinking about that gas price increase announcement in December. It was made the week between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Just how many people were working at those big oil companies that week? How long would it have taken to get approval to release that info? I wonder if someone knew something.
Last night the Wall Street Journal published an article about several men from Egypt. The article reported that they have been meeting for some time to put together a plan for a coalition. It also reported that these men have been active on Facebook and Twitter. These are not just young men. There are at least a few in their 60’s. Again, somebody knew something was going to happen if they were putting a plan together.
It appears that only those at the top did not know. Maybe they only get info from the sources they have been talking with for years. It is very comfortable to only talk with those around you.
I learned long time ago to get info from several sources. I also learned to observe actions versus talk. I get my news from several sources and I make sure that they have different viewpoints. I also force myself to listen to people from different social and economic spheres. I am amazed at what I overhear while I am standing in a store checkout line!
If we take no other lesson from this, we need to learn that information is flowing out. We need to pay attention to what we are filtering and make sure that we are receiving different views to make intelligent decisions.
