One of my next door neighbors is building an addition on his house. Yesterday he had to ask if they can put the roof trusses in my natural area. Trying to be a nice neighbor I have agreed. They are only to be there one day. This is to occur next week. I have also told the landscaper to hold up planting the crepe myrtle because it would be in the way.
However, I draw the line at them bringing them up my front yard. They are going to have to come through his yard to my natural area. If that means that he has to cut down a tree, so be it. It will not be the first time that I have had to put my foot down on something.
Over night and this morning all of the times that I have had to allow a truck into the back yard or some other project need for part of my yard have come back. I also remembered the incident on the trencher last year. I and the electric company had already cleared for that trencher to come up his part of the 10 foot drain/right-of-way area. I was gone the morning they came. I understand from several sources that he stopped them until they decided that they were coming through my front yard. Then he relented.
That was one year and one week ago. I realized this morning that he had to know then that he was going to do this building project since he had blueprints in March.
Over the years I have bit my tongue more times than I care to count in talking with all of my neighbors. Children were living in some of these homes and I swallowed a lot. However, the children are growing up. The houses have not appreciated as they should have. In this economy they are even lower than they were. After 23 years they have not doubled.
I now have more criteria for a new house. It should be on a corner. It should be in a neighborhood with alley ways. This way I will only have one neighbor with a connecting yard.
