Listening and Watching NCSU Wolfpack Football

I could not make it to Raleigh for the game last night. Life just worked better to stay home since the game was on TV. I turned on the Wolfpack Radio station out of Hickory. I turned the TV to ESPN and the sound down. It was great!

People that know me will tell you that I can be tight with a dollar. The best deal I have going is this Radio/TV setup. The radio is 4 seconds ahead of the TV. I get to hear what the play does and then see it. It is my version of “instant replay”. It also works really well when the play is stopped so the previous one can be discussed. I get to hear what the radio announcers are seeing and what the TV keeps showing.

I kept laughing when the radio announcers were ready for play to resume after a TV timeout. I would think “not yet. TV just started another commercial”. Speaking of commercials, I like getting to hear and see different ones. During this TV broadcast, the commercials had the names of the product or company on them. That was smart! One month ago, some did not and I did not know what they were about until I watched a game with the sound on.

I presume that the wrecked car TV showed after showing Nate Irving was his. It was a miracle for him to survive that. He is playing well for someone that went through that the other year.

It is also easy to be a “couch” coach. I kept saying “go around” on that 4th quarter drive. Finally they did and scored the TD. They must have heard me.

I was glad that Ponder fumbled the ball since I think that our defense was tired and that was the way we stopped them. However, I was upset that TV kept showing him on the bench. This “couch” coach thinks they could have shown something else.

All of us make mistakes. However, I had a wise boss at my first job after my NCSU graduation. Mister Jenkins said “Make a mistake once and I will help you correct it. Make the same mistake again, and I will ask why you did that. Make it a third time and I will work to get you off of my team. You can make mistakes. That is part of learning. Own up to them. Just do not keep making the same ones.” I have never forgotten that. We need to remember that with everything including college football games. They are students. They are learning and trying. Can we say the same about us?
